Siri, Why Do You Think John Travolta Is Dead?
Siri has a lot of answers, just you can't always believe them.
Apple'southward virtual banana was defenseless this week spreading the imitation news that thespian John Travolta has died, according to Business Insider. Users in the UK, Poland, and Australia who asked Siri how quondam the role player is received a surprising response: "John Travolta died 3 January 2009 at age 54."
In reality, John Travolta did non dice at the historic period of 54. He's still live and boot at 63 years one-time.
"It looks like the error was caused by Siri misreading news reports of the decease of Travolta's son Jett, who did die on Jan 3, 2009," Business Insider reported. The news outlet contacted Apple tree about the issue and the Cupertino tech giant promised to fix information technology.
Here at PCMag'south US offices, Siri gave the states the correct response: the histrion is 63 years former. It'south unclear whether Apple already stock-still the problem, or whether this is just an overseas glitch. Apple did non immediately answer to PCMag's asking for comment.
Meanwhile, this isn't the first time Siri has spread misinformation. Co-ordinate to CNET, the digital assistant was recently telling people that the national anthem of Bulgaria was the Justin Bieber-backed striking "Despacito."
And to be fair, Siri isn't the only imperfect virtual banana out there. Earlier this year, Google Dwelling was telling people Barack Obama might "be in bed with the communist Chinese" and "may in fact be planning a communist putsch at the end of his term in 2022."
